BE

Modular Vehicle Intelligence for advanced applications

Build the IVMS your application requires

The BE is Squarell’s modular In Vehicle Monitoring System for applications that demand more interfaces, more processing capacity and greater flexibility than a conventional telematics device can provide.

Instead of choosing a fixed hardware configuration, customers can build the BE around the exact requirements of the project. Multiple CAN networks, K-line, J1708, RS232, SFD, SAN, USB, Ethernet, modem and GNSS can be combined within one rugged automotive platform.

Whether the application requires advanced diagnostics, multiple vehicle networks or local data analysis, the BE provides the capacity and flexibility to make it possible.

Why choose the BE?

Designed for complex vehicle applications

Modern vehicles and specialist equipment contain an increasing number of communication networks, sensors and control systems.

The BE is designed for applications where a standard IVMS no longer provides enough interfaces or processing power.

Typical uses include:

  • OEM-specific diagnostics
  • Multiple CAN network monitoring
  • Advanced vehicle research
  • Special-purpose vehicles
  • Complex body-builder applications
  • Onboard analysis
  • Predictive maintenance
  • Project-specific data processing

The BE is currently often used to retrieve manufacturer-specific diagnostic codes. From early 2027, Squarell’s harmonised Parameter Groups developed for SOLID+, REMOTE+ and ENVIRON+ are also planned to become available for the BE.

“Build the IVMS your application requires”

A truly modular architecture

The BE consists of a rugged Backbone with space for up to eight Units.

Two positions are reserved for:

  • Power Supply Unit
  • Micro Controller Unit

The remaining six positions can be configured freely with the functional Units required by the application. Multiple Units of the same type can be installed when additional interfaces are needed.

This modular concept allows one BE platform to support many different vehicle and industrial applications without developing a new hardware design for every project.

Built for demanding environments

The Backbone can be opened to provide access to the internal wiring channel and Unit connections.

Each functional Unit is encapsulated and connected to the Backbone through a protected interface. Unused positions are filled with Empty Units to maintain protection of the complete assembly.

This makes the BE suitable for professional vehicle and equipment installations where reliability, vibration resistance and environmental protection are essential.

Powerful onboard processing

The BE uses an ARM A20 dual-core Controller Unit with Linux and 8 GB of memory.

Each functional Unit has its own processor and communicates with the central Controller Unit through USB.

This distributed architecture provides the processing capacity required for:

  • multiple simultaneous vehicle networks
  • advanced diagnostics
  • local data processing
  • complex communication tasks
  • future predictive maintenance algorithms
  • project-specific software functions

The BE is therefore more than a data gateway. It is a powerful onboard Vehicle Intelligence computer.

“The BE is suitable for vehicles with many networks, specialist machinery and advanced embedded applications.”

Built for Vehicle Intelligence

The BE can read and communicate with a wide range of vehicle and equipment networks.

Depending on the selected Units, the platform can support:

  • CAN
  •  K-line
  •  J1708
  • RS232
  • USB
  •  Ethernet
  • Squarell SFD
  • Squarell SAN
  • Modem
  • GNSS

This makes the BE suitable for vehicles with many networks, specialist machinery and advanced embedded applications.

Ready for Squarell Parameter Groups

The BE is being integrated into the same Vehicle Intelligence ecosystem used by the Core1 product family.

This means the platform will increasingly benefit from:

  • Harmonised Parameter Groups
  • OEM-specific DCF technology
  • ExpertView Device Management
  • Remote configuration
  • Subscription management
  • Advanced onboard analytics

Because the BE provides significantly more processing capacity, it can also support heavier local analysis tasks than the smaller IVMS platforms.

“The BE can also support heavier local analysis tasks than the smaller IVMS platforms.”

Designed for automotive reliability

The BE is developed as a professional automotive and industrial platform.

Key characteristics include:

  • Modular, rugged construction
  • Protected functional Units
  • Automotive power supply
  • Wide input voltage range
  • Multiple communication technologies
  • Linux-based processing
  • Designed and produced in the Netherlands

Why Squarell?

Most vehicle computers offer either fixed telematics hardware or an open industrial computer that still requires extensive vehicle integration.

The BE combines both worlds:

  • Modular hardware
  • Automotive design
  • Squarell vehicle protocol expertise
  • Harmonised Parameter Groups
  • DCF intelligence
  • ExpertView Device Management

This allows customers to focus on the application instead of designing a new vehicle interface, power supply and communication platform from the ground up.

“When a standard IVMS is not enough, build the BE your application needs.”

Typical Applications

  • Advanced vehicle diagnostics
  • Multi-network vehicle monitoring
  • Special-purpose vehicles
  • Emergency and military vehicles
  • Body-builder integrations
  • Research and development vehicles
  • Local predictive maintenance
  • Embedded control applications
  • Complex industrial equipment
  • OEM and engineering projects

The BE difference

SOLID+
adds Vehicle Intelligence to an existing telematics platform.

REMOTE+
combines Vehicle Intelligence with integrated communication.

ENVIRON+
brings the same capability to harsh environments.

BE
provides the processing power, modularity and interface capacity for applications that go beyond conventional telematics.

When a standard IVMS is not enough, build the BE your application needs.
