Maintenance (MAI)
Plan maintenance based on how the vehicle is really used
Not every vehicle has the same working life.
Two trucks with the same mileage may have experienced completely different operating conditions. Engine hours, idle time, vehicle load, temperatures, braking and drivetrain activity all influence component wear and maintenance requirements.
The Squarell Maintenance Parameter Group combines service information with actual vehicle usage, helping fleet operators and workshops plan maintenance based on how the vehicle has really been operated.

Typical Applications
The Maintenance Parameter Group supports applications such as:
- Preventive maintenance
- Condition-based maintenance
- Workshop planning
- Service scheduling
- Vehicle health monitoring
- Maintenance forecasting
- Component usage analysis
- Fleet maintenance dashboards
- Vehicle lifecycle management
- Total Cost of Ownership analysis
Key Parameters
Service Information
Know when a vehicle is approaching its next scheduled maintenance.
Typical parameters include:
- Service Distance
- Distance to Next Service
- Time to Next Service
- Service Due Status
- Odometer
- Total Engine Hours
Brake Usage
Brake activity provides additional information about vehicle utilisation and component wear.
Typical parameters include:
- Total Brake Applications
- Total Time of Brake Applications
Detailed brake condition information, such as remaining brake lining, is available through the dedicated Brake Data Parameter Group.
Electrical Condition
The electrical system can provide early indications of maintenance requirements.
Typical parameters include:
- Battery Voltage
- Battery State of Charge — when available
- Battery State of Health — when available
- Charging Voltage
- Low Battery Voltage Event
Operating Conditions
Average operating values provide valuable context about how intensively the vehicle has been used.
Typical values for the current trip include:
- Average Engine Power
- Average Engine Temperature
- Average Turbo Pressure
- Average Axle Load
Combined over time, these values can help distinguish between vehicles performing light transport and vehicles continuously operating under demanding conditions.
The complete Parameter Group and parameter definitions are available to Squarell partners.
From scheduled to condition-based maintenance
Traditional maintenance is mainly based on time and mileage.
But vehicle wear is also influenced by operating conditions.
A vehicle that spends many hours idling, operates continuously under high load or performs intensive stop-and-go work may require different maintenance attention from a vehicle covering the same distance under light motorway conditions.
By combining service information with actual utilisation, the Maintenance Parameter Group provides the information needed to move from fixed maintenance intervals towards condition-based maintenance.
Visualisation
A maintenance dashboard can show every vehicle together with:
Next Service → Mileage → Engine Hours → Utilisation → Operating Conditions → Maintenance Priority
This allows workshops to identify vehicles requiring attention and plan maintenance before they affect fleet availability.
Business Value
The Maintenance Parameter Group helps fleet operators to:
- plan maintenance more effectively
- reduce unexpected workshop visits
- improve workshop capacity planning
- identify heavily utilised vehicles
- avoid unnecessary maintenance
- support condition-based maintenance
- reduce maintenance costs
- extend component lifetime
- increase vehicle availability
Why Squarell?
Maintenance information is distributed across different vehicle systems and differs between manufacturers.
Squarell combines OEM service information with harmonised vehicle usage data, providing a consistent Maintenance Parameter Group across mixed fleets.
This gives fleet applications more than a service reminder. It provides the information needed to understand when maintenance is required and how vehicle usage may influence that requirement.
