Trailer TPMS (TTPMS)
Know exactly what is connected to what
Tyre pressure is critical for trailer safety, fuel efficiency, tyre lifetime and vehicle availability.
Modern trailers increasingly have a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System as standard equipment. In the European Union, TPMS requirements have been extended to heavy trailers under the General Safety Regulation, with the technical requirements covered by UN Regulation No. 141.
But a warning available to the driver is only part of the value.
The Trailer TPMS Parameter Group makes the available tyre pressure and temperature information remotely accessible to fleet and maintenance applications.
Instead of installing an additional tyre monitoring system, Squarell uses information already available from the trailer.

Specifications
Name: Trailer TPMS
Header: $TRAILERTPMS1
Subscription: Yes
Solution: Trailer Box
Trigger: Engine On, every 30 seconds while the engine is running, and Engine Off
Buffer: Yes, default
Server header: Time and location
For multi-trailer combinations, an individual TPMS message can be generated for each trailer, supporting combinations of up to five trailers.
Key Parameters
Individual Tyre Pressure
Trailer TPMS provides the actual tyre pressure for individual tyre positions.
The Parameter Group supports:
- Up to six axles
- Up to four tyre positions per axle
- Individual pressure information for each tyre
This means that up to 24 individual tyre pressures per trailer can be made available to the fleet application.
Instead of receiving only a general low-pressure warning, the application can identify which tyre requires attention.
Individual Tyre Temperature
Trailer TPMS provides the actual tyre pressure for individual tyre positions.
The Parameter Group supports:
- Up to six axles
- Up to four tyre positions per axle
- Individual pressure information for each tyre
This means that up to 24 individual tyre pressures per trailer can be made available to the fleet application.
Instead of receiving only a general low-pressure warning, the application can identify which tyre requires attention.
The complete Parameter Group and parameter definitions are available to Squarell partners.
From mandatory TPMS to fleet intelligence
TPMS was originally designed primarily to warn about unsafe tyre pressure.
Squarell takes the next step.
Instead of keeping this valuable information inside the trailer and vehicle combination, the Trailer Box makes the available TPMS data accessible to the back office.
This transforms:
Tyre Pressure → Driver Warning
into:
Tyre Pressure + Temperature + Tyre Position + Trailer Identity + Time + Location → Fleet Intelligence
The same information can then be used for maintenance, tyre management and operational analysis.
ISO 11992 & Squarell Checker Box
ISO 11992 is a point-to-point communication network between truck and trailer. The Squarell Trailer Box therefore reads the active communication non-intrusively through CANcliQ, without interfering with the truck-to-trailer connection.
When the trailer is disconnected, the Squarell Checker Box can communicate actively with the trailer to retrieve additional information that may not be available during normal operation.
Together, these technologies allow Squarell to obtain both live and additional trailer information while respecting the special architecture of the ISO 11992 network.
More than preventing a flat tyre
Correct tyre pressure has an impact far beyond tyre safety.
Reliable TPMS information can help fleets to:
- Detect underinflation early
- Reduce abnormal tyre wear
- Extend tyre lifetime
- Reduce rolling resistance
- Reduce fuel consumption
- Prevent roadside tyre failures
- Improve maintenance planning
- Identify recurring tyre problems
- Improve trailer availability
Temperature information adds another valuable dimension by helping identify abnormal operating conditions before they develop into failures.
Condition-based tyre maintenance
Traditional tyre maintenance relies heavily on periodic manual inspections.
Connected TPMS information creates the opportunity to move towards condition-based tyre maintenance.
Instead of asking:
“When were the trailer tyres last checked?”
the fleet application can ask:
“Which tyre needs attention now?”
A maintenance department can therefore focus its attention on the tyres that actually require inspection.
Typical Applications
Trailer TPMS can support:
- Remote tyre monitoring
- Preventive tyre maintenance
- Condition-based maintenance
- Tyre pressure alerts
- Temperature monitoring
- Tyre lifetime optimisation
- Fuel efficiency programmes
- Workshop planning
- Roadside failure prevention
- Multi-trailer monitoring
- Road Train applications
Business Value
The Trailer TPMS Parameter Group helps fleet operators to:
- Reduce tyre-related breakdowns
- Extend tyre lifetime
- Reduce fuel consumption
- Improve trailer safety
- Reduce manual inspections
- Detect developing problems earlier
- Improve workshop planning
- Reduce maintenance costs
- Increase trailer availability
Why Squarell?
An important change is taking place in the trailer market.
As TPMS becomes standard equipment on new heavy trailers, fleets increasingly have valuable tyre information available—but that does not automatically mean the information is available to their fleet management application.
Squarell bridges that gap.
The Trailer Box retrieves the available TPMS information from the trailer and converts it into a harmonised Parameter Group that can be used across different trailer manufacturers and systems.
No additional Squarell tyre sensors are required when the necessary information is already provided by the trailer.

Trailer Box

The Squarell Trailer Box provides non-intrusive access to the ISO 11992 communication between truck and trailer.
Combined with mobile communication, GNSS and harmonised Parameter Groups, tyre pressure and temperature information can be made remotely available to the fleet application.
Trailer TPMS — The tyres already know. Squarell makes sure the fleet knows too.
